Autumn Term

Our topic for Autumn 1 is ‘Ruthless Romans’, it will take us back over 2,500 years to the time when Romans created an incredible empire across Europe. We will be learning about Roman invasions including their interactions with the Celts, Roman inventions, gladiators and famous landmarks that can still be found in Rome today!

In English we will be investigating our class animal through writing descriptive paragraphs and persuasive letters to help protect them. We will be designing a wanted poster for a Roman soldier. We will be writing non-chronological reports all about the Romans. Furthermore, we will be linking poetry to the Roman army.

In Maths we will be learning place value up to 1000. We will be rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and comparing numbers including negative numbers. We will be understanding formal methods for addition, solving subtraction problems and identifying roman numerals up to 100.

In Science we will be learning all about electricity. Using electrical equipment we will be creating an electrical circuit. We will be understanding how circuits can be altered using the equipment that is used and we will be learning all about conductors and insulators.

Other learning:

In Art, we will be making Roman mosaics using clay and beads. We will be creating an electrical game. In music, we will be creating motifs. In Religious education, we will be learning about what it means to be a Christian today. In addition, we will be having a day to celebrate Diwali. In computing, we will be creating repetition and shape using logo. In RSHE, we will be learning if all friends are the same, if friendships are always fun and if we are happy all the time

Our topic for Autumn 2 is ‘Eurovision’. This topic will take us all over Europe on a mission to find out all the cities there are in Europe, their famous landmarks and all the physical features they have. Do countries still have Roman landmarks visible in them today? We will be finding out about the Mediterranean Sea and which countries it boarders.  

In English, we will be creating our own adventure story, writing a persuasive brochure on a chosen place in Europe, creating play scripts advertising a trip to Europe and writing Christmas poems.

In Maths, we will be looking at length and perimeter. We will be able to work out equivalent lengths for mm, cm and m. We will be able to add and subtract lengths. We will be able to measure the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. As well as this we will be able to multiply and divide by 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 100.

In Science we will be learning all about the digestive system and food chains.

Other learning:

In Art, we will be doing reflective landscapes using oil pastels. In computing, we will be creating maze games using scratch. In Religious Education, we will be learning about how life is a journey and revisiting the importance of the Christmas story. In RSHE, we will be learning how to make the world fair, how do you know you belong and how can we help the poor around us

The MTP for Autumn 2 will be added at half term.

 

Important Information

P.E days – Tuesday and Thursday.

Swimming day – Tuesday afternoon. All children must wear fitted trunks or swimming costume with a swimming hat. Googles are not permitted unless needed for a medical reason e.g.: prescription googles.

Spanish day – Thursday

Home Learning

Each half term, we will send out a bingo grid for you to complete at home. Tick off an activity once you have completed it. It would be lovely to see any pictures or completed pieces of homework! 

Other home learning activities for Autumn are -

Read to an adult at least 4 times a week and record this in your home learning book- you will get a raffle ticket every week if this is logged in your planner!

Practise your spellings. Can you use each spelling in a sentence? Can you give the definition of each word?

Practise all times tables up to 12 x 12. Can you answer quick fire questions in and out of order?
