 Spring Term

Our topic for Spring 1 is  'Once Upon a Time' and will be enjoying lots of different fairy tales. Each week we will take a different story off the bookshelf and base our learning around it. The stories will include ‘The Little Red Hen’, ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’, ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ and many more.

In Literacy we will be looking at rhyme, using our sound talk skills to decode words, making different bowls of porridge and describing their textures and sequencing the Little Red Hen story. In Maths we will be learning lots of different counting songs, using our fingers to demonstrate what number we mean, looking at how to represent numbers in different ways and learning about shapes by going on a shape hunt.

Our Creative tasks will include making Gingerbread man finger puppets, collaging The Three Little Pigs houses, drawing a beanstalk, acting out stories, and much more.

Additional fun activities will include learning what would happen if the Gingerbread man tried to swim in the water, talking about Chinese new year and making crafts in relation to this, using different adjectives to describe how the beanstalk looks and also talking lots about ours and other people’s feelings.

Our topic for Spring 2 will be 'Out of This World!' and will be focussing on all the different planets in space and we will be learning about rockets, spacemen, aliens and much more! Each week we will take a different story off the bookshelf and base our learning around it. The stories will include ‘Meet The Planets’, ‘How to Catch a Star’, ‘Here Come the Aliens’ and many more.

In Literacy we will be writing the names of our pet aliens and thinking of adjectives to describe how they look, looking a space rhymes to see if we can spot rhyming words and labelling the planets with their correct names. In Maths we will be describing patterns before we create and extend our own, learning how to form numbers, naming 2d shapes and describing their properties and making a shape rocket.

Our Creative tasks will include making star constellations by sewing, finger painting the planets in the correct order, making felt aliens and creating a picture of ourselves as an astronaut.

Additional fun activities will include Investigating magnets and how they work, watching the first moon landing, learning the planets names and the order of them, talking about why it is important to have pride in our presentation of work and completing a space training trail.
