Waverley Junior Academy Events 

Summer Term 2022

Year 6 Residential 

Our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic time on their residential visit to Kingswood Outdoor Centre. They took part in a variety of fun activities including archery and a gigantic swing. They enjoyed spending time together and developing their life skills and independence. 

      

World Music Day 

To celebrate World Music Day we held our second Waverley Junior Academy Music Festival. Each class researched a different country and learnt facts about it. They then looked at music genres that originated from their country and choreographed a dance routine to a traditional piece. The whole academy came together to perform for each other and celebrate all the fantastic music we can listen to. 
 
   
 
Platinum Jubilee 
 
The whole school came together to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We enjoyed dressing up in red, white and blue and having a special picnic outside. Each class learnt about Queen Elizabeth II and her life and completed related activities. 
 
   
 
Amazing Achievements 
 
A huge well done to all our pupils who have taken part in assessments recently. This include Year 6 and Year 2 completing their SATs, Year 4 carrying out the Multiplication Tables Check and Year 1 taking part in the Phonics Screening Check. You all worked incredibly hard and we are very proud of you! 
 
  
 
Going for Gold
 
We are very proud to announce that Waverley Junior Academy have achieved Gold Awards for both the 'School Games Mark' and 'Active Travel'. Mr. Taylor has worked extremely hard this year and the gold 'Schools Games Mark' is a reflection of all of the fixtures and competitions we have entered and how active our children are. Mrs. Milner has been dedicated to ensuring that our academy achieved gold for 'Active Travel' through increasing active travel at school, organising events and workshops and introducing the first ACET Junior Road Safety Officer Meeting. 
 
   
 
 
Ramadan & Eid al-Fitr
 
All our pupils have enjoyed learning about Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. They have watched videos, read books and had discussion about the meanings behind the events and how they are celebrated. The children took part in activities including designing mosques, creating stain glass windows and making the crescent and star from clay. 
 
      
 
Waverley Academy Awards 
 
We were very pleased to hold our second Academy Awards and delighted that parents and carers were able to join us. A huge well done to all our winners, you should be very proud of everything you have achieved this year.
 
      
 
 
Spring Term 2022
 
Easter Parades 
 
All the children in Foundations @ Waverley took part in Easter parades this week. They have worked very had (with the help of their parents and carers) to make amazing bonnets and egg themed models. They were very proud to show their creations to the rest of school, who were very impressed. 
 
   
 
Rock Star Day
 
For World Maths Day we launched a two-week Maths challenge. All children were given a challenge card that included a number of tasks to be completed at home. The uptake was fantastic and to congratulate the pupils on their achievements and promote the use of TT Rockstars for learning times tables,  we had a Rockstar Day.  All children and staff took part and looked amazing. 
 
   
 
Autism Awareness Week 
 
We’ve celebrated Autism Acceptance week with 2 whole school assemblies, the children were amazing and their knowledge was mind blowing. We also had a competition within KS2 for who can create an acrostic poem using the word Autism. This are displayed proudly in the ARC. 
 
   
 
Earth Hour 
 
Earth hour encourages everyone to turn their electricity off and take part in an activity that’s not controlled by a switch. 
We have celebrated earth hour at Waverley by turning off all electronics and participating in activities such as planting seeds, making 3D houses with ideas and reasons for saving electricity, creating wheels on deforestation, writing about climate change whilst in the sunshine, learning about life cycles on the yard and presenting ideas to the class and making our planet out of bottle tops!
 
      
 

Chinese New Year 

The whole school enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year! The children learnt the story of The New Year Race and found out what animal they are! They researched customs and traditions and produced some amazing artwork including: lanterns, fans, masks, cards, tiger paintings, Mandarin writing, PowerPoints, and dragon mosaics. They also practised saying Happy New Year in Mandarin. At the end of the week the children showcased their new knowledge and fantastsic work in a special assembly. 
 
   

 

Autumn Term 2021    

Anti-bullying Week
 
This year, the theme for Anti-bullying Week was 'One Kind Word'. The whole school took part 'Odd Socks Day' to celebrate how we are all unique. Pupils also took part in a range of activities including reading stories and writing anti-bullying pledges. 
 
   
 
 
Remembrance Service
 
In our Remembrance Service, FS2 - Y6 came together to remember and wear their poppies with pride. Each class made a wreath and everybody observed the silence with utmost respect. Three Y6 children bravely read a poem, and all Y5 Tigers composed and read aloud their own poem. Reverend Philip joined us and was very impressed with the children's behaviour and understanding.  
 

 

Diwali 

The academy enjoyed celebrating Diwali! The children learnt the story of Rama and Sita and found out how and why the festival of light is celebrated each year. The children produced some amazing work including; Diwali poems, clay diva lamps, pastel Rangoli patterns, paper fireworks and ink mehndi hand patterns. They were very proud to share their learning with the rest of the school in assembly. 
 
         
 
Road Safety Week 
 
What a great week learning how to keep ourselves safe when we are out in the community. The theme of Road Safety Week this year was ROAD SAFETY HEROES. We celebrated the heroic work of road safety professionals and discussed how we can all play a part in making journeys safer for everyone. The whole school took part in 'Be Bright be seen' Day and completed Road Safety activities. The children were also able to buy reflective key rings, zip pulls, wrist bands, and stickers.
 

Black History Month

 
During October we enjoyed celebrating Black History Month. In our assemblies we learnt about some inspirational black people throughout history, in story time we have been reading a new selection of books and Y1 to Y6 have taken part in African Dance Workshops. 
 
  
 
Recycling Week 
 
To celebrate Recycling Week, everybody worked together to create their class animal out of recyclable materials! We think you’ll agree that they all fantastic! A big thank you to all those who brought in materials to contribute to the project.
