World Book Day

World Book Day took place this week and we had a fantastic time celebrating. The children enjoyed a variety of activities through out the day including filming book reviews to share with their friends, spotting new phonics sounds in their favourite stories and even calculating the mean to estimate how many letters are on a page. The staff dressed up and to take part in The masked Reader and pupils loved guessing who was behind each mask!

For fun activities such as Book Club and Share a Story Corner, videos of authors and illustrators and information on this year's World Book Day £1 book line up you can click here to visit the World Book Day website.

Children's mental Health Week

Children's Mental Health Week took place last week (1-7 February 2021) and with the current situation we are all facing this was more important than ever. Throughout the week, teachers shared a variety activities, via Google Classroom, based on this year’s theme ‘Express Yourself.’ As part of this we will be held ‘Well-being Wednesday’ where we invited all the children (and parents) to take the day off online learning and have some fun! We loved seeing all the photos and videos of how the children spent their days. The day was so popular we have decided to make it a weekly event!

Christmas Movie Night

The children had a fantastic time and our Christmas movie night and were very excited to be at school in their pyjamas and Christmas clothes. They enjoyed a selection of films including Nativity, The Polar Express, The Flight Before Christmas and Elf and the popcorn and snacks were a big hit!

Road Safety Week

What a great week learning how to keep ourselves safe when we are out in the community! FS2 had a visit from Miss Cootes from RMBC to show them how to cross the road safely, the whole school took part in our 'Bling a Bike' event and we opened our 'Be Bright be seen' shop.

Our Year 2 Sharks have also been invited by Barratt Developments to take part in a Road Safety Campaign. They will be designing road safety posters to promote it's importance in the local area. Out of the submitted posters, one lucky winner will have their work displayed at Barratt's Momentum development in Waverley. More news to follow!

Children in Need

We had a super day supporting Children in Need and the children looked great in their Pudsey inspired outfits. We have raised a fantastic £286.92 and learnt all about who this money will help.

Remembrance Service

We are incredibly proud of the Waverley Junior Academy children and how respectful and thoughtful they all were throughout our Remembrance Day service. The wreaths each class produced are beautiful and our river of poppies looks amazing!
