Christmas Spirit

The School Council have had a fantastic morning decorating Catcliffe Post Office ready for Christmas. A huge thank you to Terry and his team for inviting us. The children loved having the freedom to make the shop look festive in their own way. Another big thank you to Catcliffe Morrisons for the selection boxes for our pupils, it is very kind if you. Finally well done to the children, you did an amazing job representing Waverley Junior Academy.

Living Advent Calendar

We are very excited to be part of the Waverley Living Advent Calendar again this year and very proud to be chosen as day 1! Each class decorated a item to be part of the 'snowball fight' scene what a fantastic job they did. We are enjoying seeing a new window each day.

Harvest Assembly

In our Harvest Assembly. Sarah from the Rivers Team read us the story of The Rich Farmer and told us how we can support the project by bringing in tins, cans and packets of food for the Liberty food-bank in Rotherham. A huge well done to some of our Year 6 Jaguars for their readings - you were amazing! All the food we collected has now been delivered, thank you very much for your support.

Waverley Scarecrow Competition

This week the School Council had the honour of judging the Waverley Scarecrow Competition. This year's theme was 'Sporting Heroes' and we saw many amazing creations! The children used the design criteria to help make their decision and they took the responsibility very seriously. Thank you to the Waverley Events Team for asking us to be part of the event. The children really enjoyed being out in the community and made Waverley Junior Academy very proud with their impeccable behaviour and enthusiasm.

An Author Visits!

The School Council have been given the exciting job of providing inspiration to the fantastic author Chris Madeley. Chris writes a set of book called ‘The Cones’ and she is wanting to write a book based in Waverley. The children told Chris all the things they love about where they live and what the school is like! Hopefully the next time we see her, we’ll get to meet her in person and see the finished book. For more information about Chris and her brilliant stories please visit her website

Bronze Modeshift STARS award

We are very proud to announce that just weeks after opening, Waverley Junior Academy celebrates a Bronze Modeshift STARS award! Over 84% of our pupils are choosing to walk, scoot or cycle to school. Mrs Milner and all the academy staff have worked hard to secure the award and would like to say a big thank you to all the pupils and parents embracing initiatives such as free bike-safety checks, scooter training and road safety awareness.

Sponsored Mile

This week in school all the children have ran, walked or even danced a mile! The reason for this is we are hoping to raise enough money to buy a greenhouse. Mr Hayselden, our caretaker, is an avid gardener and would really like to involve groups of children from every class in planting and growing their own vegetables. Although in our allotment outdoor learning space we have raised beds, a greenhouse would be perfect to start some of the initial planting. The children were fantastic and many of them did extra laps! Sponsor money has been collected all week and is being counted. Thank you to all our parents and carers and the Waverley community for your very generous contributions.
