Foundations@Waverley

The Early Years setting at Waverley provides a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment for all children. Provision is planned in short topics or themes based on the children’s interests and includes a balance of both indoor and outdoor learning. The children earn through high quality play which develops their confidence and independence, as well as fun and engaging adult led activities where children will learn to read appropriate books, write in sentences, learn about numbers as well as being introduced to other subjects.

The Foundation Stage is an important period of children’s education as it develops an early love of learning. At Waverley we ensure all children are prepared for future challenges and successes. We ensure a smooth transition from home to school and then prepare the children to begin the National Curriculum in Key Stage 1.

Aims of the Early Years Foundation Stage

  • To encourage the development of self-esteem, a sense of achievement and self-confidence in a safe and supported learning environment.
  • To encourage learning through direct, hands-on experience.
  • To encourage independence, a sense of responsibility and the confidence to make decisions and choices.
  • To help children become aware of the needs of others through interaction with adults and peers.
