Welcome to the Bear Class

Do you know what is beneath your feet?

‘What is beneath my feet?’ is our Spring term topic. This is a geography topic; we will be introducing the idea that the ground beneath our feet is constantly changing. We will be looking at how mountains are formed, the environment that makes them up and human geography linked to them. In addition to this, we will learn about the structure of the Earth and also discover how volcanoes are formed and how they can impact on people’s lives.

The key enquiries we will be looking at are:

  1. Where is Mount Everest?
  2. What is it like to climb Mount Everest?
  3. How do mountains form?
  4. Where are mountains formed?
  5. How do volcanoes form?
  6. Why are volcanos hazards?
  7. Why do people live near volcanos?

For our maths learning we will continue using the White Rose planning. When we come back we are continuing multiplication and division. This half term we are progressing to Short Multiplication and division using apparatus.

In English, we will find the features of diaries, look at some famous explorer’s diary entries and eventually write our own diary imagining that we are an explorer climbing Mt Everest. We will also consolidate our topic learning through writing explanation texts about volcanoes. Finally, we will write some descriptive poetries about volcanoes.
