Our Spring topic of the year will be “Wheels of Change”.

Inspired by “Street Child”, we will learn how life has changed for children since the Victorian times, and how the industrial revolution changed industry and transport.  This will lead us to compare how goods are transported and what is fair trade.

Our maths learning will continue to follow White Rose planning.  The first topic of the year will be position and direction.  For those children wanting additional challenge, homework is regularly posted on MyMaths.

In English, it is important that the children recognise how language is used for different audiences and purposes both when writing and reading.  We will write a story linked to the Victorians for older children and then consider how the same story would be written for younger children and then adapted for film script.

Year 6 SATs information

Once your child reaches year 6 (their final year at Waverley), they will take part in a range of Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs). These take place over a week in May.  Your children will sit tests in a relaxed environment throughout their time in Key Stage 2 so therefore they will feel more prepared for these formal tests. More information with regards these tests will be given out throughout Year 6.  We appreciate many parents/carers want to support their children in preparation for these tests – there are a range of materials available to support this including revision books (see links below).  We would request that parents do not use past papers as we do use these to inform us of any areas the children require further support – it helps if we know the children have not previously been supported with them.
