Our topic, this half term, is Savage Saxons and Vicious Vikings! We will be learning all about who these settlers were and why they decided to come Britain. Along the way, we will discover more about their life through ancient artefacts, research about their lifestyle and understand about leaders within their tribes.

In English:

This term our book is ‘How to train your dragon’. First, we will be creating our own dragon and writing a fact file all about it. After this, we will be writing instructions all about how to train our dragon.

 

In Maths:

We will be finishing our unit on fractions and moving onto decimals. In summer 2 we will be covering the following units: money, time and geometry.

 

Other learning:

We will be learning how to use Audacity in computing to add sound effects to our audio stories. In art, we will be creating a stormy Viking longboat scene using water colour and detailed drawings. In DT, we will be perfecting our sewing skills to design and make our own Viking money pouch. In RE, we will be understanding all about Ramadan and the reasons why Muslims celebrate it. 

 

Summer 1 Home Learning Grid

Other home learning activities for Summer are:

  • Read to an adult at least 4 times a week and record this in your home learning book- you will get a honeybee token every week if this is logged in your planner! 

  • Practise your spellings. Can you use each spelling in a sentence? Can you give the definition of each spelling?

  • Practise all times tables up to 12 x 12. Can you answer quick fire questions in and out of order? Go on Mathsframe and try to beat you score out of 25.
