Welcome to the Iguana Class

Welcome to the Year 5 Iguanas class page. The staff at Waverley Junior Academy are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-deserved break. On this page you will find key information regarding your transition to the Iguana class and what exciting things we have planned. For the meantime, have a look at the home learning activities you can have a go at.

Mr Selkirk – Class Teacher

Our fifth topic ‘The Ancient Greeks’ will take us back to Ancient Greece! We will be learning all about Greek civilization and culture, and looking at how it influenced the world we live in today! Our NEW class text is called “Who Let The Gods Out”. We will learn about different periods of Greek history, exploring the earliest civilisations, the devastation of the Dark Age and the breakthroughs and developments of the Archaic and Classical periods. We will understand how the geography of Greece affected the development of city states and explore Athens, learning about the structure of the government and society. Also, we will get to know some of the most significant Athenians and understand why Greek art, culture, architecture, philosophy, medicine and mathematics were so significant.
