Hello! Welcome to the Year 4 class page. Here you will find key information about the Year 4 curriculum, important dates and expectations of the children. We are very excited to start the year with you all in September!
Autumn 2
In Autumn 2 our topic will be ‘Forged in Steel’.

Our text for guided reading and English this term is ‘Can You Feel the Noise?’ by Stewart Foster. The book is about Sophie, who becomes deaf and discovers sound through drums, and is about inner strength and perseverance. The book also links to our science topic of sound, discovering how sound travels through vibrations.
In English we will be writing a persuasive letter to encourage educators to have more opportunities and inclusion for the deaf community within schools. Also, we will be writing a poem drawing ideas from the content within the book and the writing style of the author.
In Maths, we will be looking at length and perimeter. We will be able to work out equivalent lengths for mm, cm and m. We will be able to add and subtract lengths. We will be able to measure the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. As well as this we will be able to multiply and divide by 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 100.
In science, we will be learning all about sound. We will be investigating how sound travels, how we hear sound, what makes a high/low pitch and how sounds become louder and quieter.
In history we will be exploring The Industrial Revolution within Sheffield and looking closely into the local steel and mining industry such as The Orgreave Pit. We will investigate important figures and learn about how they had a great impact on the population increase of Sheffield and surrounding areas.
In art, we will be focusing on techniques such as coiling with clay. We will be making and decorating a clay Christmas ornament. In RE, we will find out about the events of Pentecost found in the Bible, considering which events would be needed to retell the story for someone else. We will learn how Christians today show their beliefs about the Holy Spirit in worship and the way that they live their lives. In computing, we will be learning about repetition in games. RSHE will be based on health and wellbeing.
Key vocabulary pupils will learn through this topic can be found in the table below.
