Welcome to the Year 5 page. The Year 5 staff at Waverley are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-deserved break. On this page you will find key information regarding your transition to Year 5 and what exciting things we have planned. For the meantime, have a look at the home learning activities you can have a go at.

Our first topic will be Terrible Tudors

In English and Guided Reading, we will focus on our thrilling class text 'Spy Master', which is a historical adventure. Spy Master is set in Tudor England: mystery, adventure and friendship all unfold in King Henry VIII's court. We will be writing a diary entry from one of the main characters, Jack Briars, points of view. This text links beautifully to our topic the Terrible Tudors.

In Maths, we will begin with place value, followed by addition and subtraction using the column method. We are also covering multi-step addition and subtraction word problems. After this we will be moving onto statistics, multiplication and division and perimeter and area.

Our first topic ‘The Tudors’ will take us back to the death of King Henry VII and the reign of Henry VIII. We will be learning about how the Tudors became the rulers of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We will be looking at the Battle of Bosworth and what occurred during this time. We will also be finding out about King Henry VIII’s lavish lifestyle and his marriages during his life.

Key vocabulary pupils will learn through this topic can be found in the table below.
