Welcome to the Year 5 class page. The staff at Waverley Primary Academy are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-deserved break. On this page you will find key information regarding the exciting things we have planned this half term. In the meantime, have a look at the home learning activities you can have a go at.
Our Science topic for Summer 1 is Earth and Space.
We will be looking at the planets in our solar system, theories and beliefs about space and how these ideas have changed over time, how spherical bodies orbit in space and the movement of the moon. To finish of four topic, we will be researching the Space Race.

In English and Guided Reading, we are focusing on our new text ‘Who Let the Gods Out’, fantasy adventure novel that combines Greek mythology with modern-day comedy. We will be looking at myths as our example text and then building up our skills in preparation for writing our own myth linked to the text.
In Maths, we will be carrying on our work on fractions, decimals and percentages before moving on to properties of shapes.

Important Information
Sea Lions and Iguanas P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday.
Tigers P.E days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Please make sure your child’s P.E kit is in school on these days and labelled with their name and class.
Spellings: Our weekly spelling test will be on a Friday.
Times tables are practised daily at the start of our Maths lesson.

Home Learning
Each half term we will send out a home learning bingo grid with tasks for you to complete at home. Here are this half term’s challenges for you to try.
Other home learning activities for Spring 1 are:

- Reading individual reading book at least four times a week.
- Spend 10 minutes a day on TT Rockstars.
