Welcome to Year 6
Dolphins - Mrs Rose/Mrs Eades & Mrs Milner
Jaguars - Mrs Pridmore & Mrs Wright
Welcome to the Year 6 class page. We are so excited to have you here for your final year in primary school – we cannot wait to see you flourish. Year 6 is full of learning, fun and new challenges as we get ready for secondary school. Keep checking this page for updates, news and all the exciting things we will be doing this year!
Our first topic will be… Keep Calm and Stay Healthy
In English, we will be linking our writing to our mentor text ’When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit’ by Judith Kerr – a story about a Jewish family who fled Berlin on the eve of election of Adolf Hitler. This text will inspire us to write a diary extract in the style of a 1940s child. We will also produce a biography based around the life of Judith Kerr who escaped Germany in 1935 and came to Britain to escape persecution during the rise of the Nazis.
In Maths, we will start the year by refreshing our knowledge of Place Value. We will be looking at numbers up to one million and also revisiting rounding and negative numbers. Following on from this, we will look at the four operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will support pupils by building their confidence with these operations and guide them with solving increasing complex problems.
In our topic lessons, we will be learning about the Second World War in History and Healthy Humans in science. History will see us investigating when World War II was and why it started alongside understanding the role women played.
In science, we will be looking at the different system of the human body and the importance of staying healthy.
Key vocabulary pupils will learn through this topic can be found in the table below:
Conflict |
Propaganda |
Dictator |
Industry |
Power |
Equality |
Persecution |

Please make sure your child’s P.E kit is in school on these days and labelled with their name and class.
Spellings – we will test the children on the spellings every Friday. Scores will be recorded in their planners.
Times tables and Arithmetic – We will test the children on their times tables and arithmetic every Friday. Arithmetic scores will be logged in planners. This score will be out of 40. We would expect to see an improvement to these scores as we approach the SATs tests.
