Welcome to the Monkey class with Miss Tracey and Miss Cassim. This page is for our parents and children to use together. It includes information about what FS2 are learning, key dates, homework and helpful websites.
This term we are focusing on why listening is important and how to articulate our ideas. We are building respectful relationships and learning how to manage our own feelings and the feelings of others, as well as how to independently manage our own needs throughout the day. While focusing on activities to strengthen our fine motor skills, we will be using a range of tools and equipment safely and confidently. We will be exploring the seasons and understanding events of the past. Furthermore, we will be talking about and describing our immediate family and our community.

Autumn Term
Our first topic is ‘Marvellous Me and My Wonderful Community’.
We will be focusing on learning more about ourselves and the people that help us in our community.
In phonics, we will be starting learning phase 2 sounds, tricky words and high frequency words. We will be learning to use these sounds to blend and read CVC words. Our aim of this term is for your child to read a Phase 2 ) book fluently and to say and then write words and captions using their phonics knowledge and forming some letters correctly.
In literacy, we will be using lots of stories as a stimulus for our written pieces. We will be focusing on name writing, hearing and writing initial sounds and even beginning to write some CVC words.
Key Vocabulary |
Doctor, nurse, pharmacist, receptionist, surgeon, midwife, paramedic, ambulance, fire fighter, fire engine, siren, hosepipe, crime, detective, criminal, police, vet, post men and women, letter, post box, delivery
Learning what these words mean will really help you with this topic. |
In maths, we will be learning all about the numbers to 5. We will be learning to recognise them, count up to 5 objects accurately, represent numbers in different ways, subitise to 5 and order numbers to 5.
Our Topic for the second Autumn term is ‘One Cosy night’. In this topic, we will be focusing on learning about Autumn and Winter.
In phonics, we will be continuing to learn phase 2 sounds, tricky words and high frequency words. We will be learning to use these sounds to blend and read CVC words. We will also be beginning to look at some polysyllabic words too.
In literacy, we will be using lots of different books about autumn and winter as a stimulus for our written pieces. We will be focusing on hearing and writing initial sounds, writing CVC words and we will begin writing some short phrases and captions.
In maths, we will be continuing to learn all about the numbers to 5, focusing on knowing one more and one less than a given number. We will also be looking at 2D shapes and continuing repeating patterns.
Story time
Books shared at story time have been carefully selected to ensure our pupils; learn new vocabulary, speak in clear sentences, develop their conversational skills, deepen their understanding and ask and answer questions.
